올해 아트자카르타에서 샤워는 임재균과 김대환의 프레젠테이션을 동시대 미술 환경의 소모적인 속성에 대응해 지속 가능한 서사와 순환 구조를 고민해 온 갤러리의 실천적 지향점을 투영합니다.
임재균은 중력과 경화 같은 물리적 전제조건을 다루며 조각이 부재하거나 서 있을 가상의 지형을 제안하고 형태 고유의 균형감각을 실험합니다. 특히 이번 프리젠테이션에서 선보이는 임재균의 신작은 인도네시아 현지에서 직접 제작되는 장소 특정적인 조각적 지형으로 구현됩니다. 이러한 현지 프로덕션방식은 아티스트에게 기술적 지원을 제공하며 공간을 다루어 온 샤워의 방법론을 반영합니다. 반면, 전시 구조 전체를 하나의 매체로 사용하는 김대환의 개념적 조각은 상황과 맥락에 따라 유연하게 변형되는 구조를 지닙니다.
현지에서 생산된 임재균의 조각들과 김대환의 조각들이 물리적으로 대응하며 얽히는 방식을 취하는 두 작가의 서로 다른 조각적 궤적을 교차시킴으로써,기존 미술 생태계 안에서 대안적인 순환 구조를 모색하려는 샤워의 정체성을 보여주는 자리가 될 것 입니다.
At this year's Art Jakarta, Shower presents a presentation by Jaegyun Lim and Dahwan Ghim, reflecting the gallery's practical commitment to exploring sustainable narratives and circular structures in response to the consumptive nature of the contemporary art environment.
Jaegyun Lim engages with physical prerequisites such as gravity and solidification, proposing speculative terrains where sculptures are either absent or meant to stand, while experimenting with the form's inherent sense of balance. Notably, Lim’s new works showcased in this presentation are embodied as site-specific sculptural terrains produced directly in Bandung, Indonesia. This localized production method reflects Shower's distinct methodology of managing space and providing technical support to artists. Conversely, Dahwan Ghim, who treats the entire presentation structure as a single medium, creates conceptual sculptures with structures that adapt flexibly to varying contexts and situations.
By intertwining and creating a physical dialogue between Lim’s locally produced pieces and Ghim’s sculptures, this presentation intersects the distinct sculptural trajectories of the two artists. Ultimately, it serves as a platform that demonstrates Shower's identity in seeking alternative circular structures within the existing art ecosystem.
